Tee-Off for a Good Cause

Make sure your swing is on form because it’s time for the annual Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU) Golf Day.

On Friday the 16th of September, players will tee-off at 10am at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club for a day of fun on the fairway. The Golf Day is open to any participants and organisations, and the format of the day will be a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford. That being said, if golfing is not your idea of fun, but you’d still like to get involved- there are ample volunteer and sponsorship opportunities of which to take advantage.

The proceeds from this fundraising event will go the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit, and the incredible work they do.

The Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit is a non-profit organisation made up of an impressive team of people dedicated to the conservation and protection of local wildlife and natural resources. Established by Charles Brightman and the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, VFAPU has been working closely with Zimbabwean National Parks and Zimbabwe Republic Police to clamp down on poaching in these breathtaking areas. The VFAPU work to apprehend poachers, rescue and rehabilitate injured animals, and have removed over 18 000 snares so far.

This event is of great importance, because not only does it raise much-needed funds for this worthy cause, but it spreads awareness about the severity of commercial and subsistence poaching. VFAPU places emphasis on education, and is responsible for a number of community projects, where local people are taught the importance of conserving natural resources. Upliftment is an integral part of the VFAPU ethos, and they try to employ as many convicted poachers as they can to remove them from the vicious cycle. There are also training programmes in place to equip ex-poachers with useful skills.Image Credit: VFAPU FacebookSo grab your clubs and your A-game, and spend the day on the green for a good cause.
