Non-Executive Chairperson (Director since: 2008)
Maria holds the position of Director, Tariff Investigations and Research at the Botswana Trade Commission. She holds a Master of Arts in Financial Economics from the University of Botswana attained in 1993. She joined Botswana Development Corporation Limited (BDC) in 1995 as the Senior Operations Officer in the Industry Division. In 2005 after serving as Manager for the Industry division for six (6) years, she was appointed the General Manager for Business Development, a position she held until 2008. She became the Managing Director of BDC in 2008 until February 2013.
Prior to joining BDC she was with the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning as an Economist. She has held various directorships with both public and private sector corporates as well as a founding shareholder and director in a health and wellness facility. She has also attended numerous courses in corporate governance, financial restructuring and venture capital and private equities.
Non executive Director
Pius is the CEO of Botswana Building Society. He holds a post graduate diploma in economics from the University of Sussex in the UK. Pius previously worked for Barclays Bank of Botswana and Ministry of Finance amongst others. At the Minister of Finance, he was involved in the handling of all development projects. He was further involved in the development of policies regulating the financial services sector. He was involved in the establishment of the Botswana Stock Exchange and also served as a member in the exchange
Non executive Director
Gavin is the CEO of TA Holdings, a company listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. Before joining TA Holdings, he worked for Deloitte and Touche from 1981 to 1998. He was appointed partner at Deloitte and Touche in 1989. When he left Deloitte and Touche, he joined Colcom Holdings as a Finance Director and was appointed Managing Director in 2000. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and obtained is qualification in 1981 in Zimbabwe.
John qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980. He joined Deloitte & Touche in Durban in 1974 and has been with the Company for the last 33 years, serving as a partner resident in Botswana of Deloitte & Touche for eight years, and being elected to the Board of Deloitte & Touche Southern Africa in 2004. John also headed up Deloitte & Touche insolvency and reorganisation division in Botswana and has completed 50 insolvent estates in the past years. John retired from Deloitte & Touche in 2007 and has taken up the challenge of private consultancy. Over the past 27 years John has gained extensive experience in many spheres of business in Botswana and the many clients that John has served include Barloworld Botswana, Murray & Roberts, Realestate Development Company, Botswana Insurance Company, National Development Bank, Avis Botswana, Bank of Botswana and Debswana. John is the past Chairman of the Botswana Institute of Accountants, after having served on the Council of the Institute for a number of years. In his role as a Council Member he chaired the Technical, Public Relations, Taxation and Exchange Control Committees.
Elias holds a 4-Year Certificate in Agriculture from Mzingwane Government School in Zimbabwe, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Accounting from the University of Botswana and Swaziland, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management and Industrialization from the Research Institute of Management Sciences (RVB) of the University of Delft in the Netherlands. Currently he is a private consultant in the fields of Management of private-sector Business Organizations; Public-Private Dialogue, Democracy and Good Governance. He has consulted in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and most recently in Nigeria. Prior to that, Elias Dewah served in the Botswana Civil Service for 24 years in various capacities in the Ministry of Agriculture and in the Ministry of Trade and Industry where he rose to the position of Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. After retiring from the Civil Service, Elias joined Shell Oil Botswana as Operations Manager, before joining the Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) where he rose to the top position of Executive Director (CEO).
Non-Executive Director (Director since: 2016)
Mbako holds an MBA from the University of Derby, United Kingdom. He is also an ACCA qualified Accountant with additional Professional Qualifications in Corporate Treasury (AMCT-UK). He has held financial and treasury management as well as auditing roles in various organisations including BTC, BPC, Barclays Bank and Deloitte. He is currently Chief Risk Officer at Botswana Development Corporation (BDC). He has previously worked for the African Development Bank Group covering a large investment and country program portfolio across 7 African countries on issues of financial management and fiduciary risk. Mbako has sat on a number of boards including that of Botswana National Youth Council.
Non-Executive Director (Director since: 2016)
Bafana serves as the Chief Investment Officer at the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC). He joined BDC in 2015 from Vantage Capital – a leading mezzanine fund manager based in Johannesburg and operating across sub-Saharan Africa.
At Vantage, Bafana was a Senior Associate originating and structuring private equity and mezzanine deals in Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique. He was previously with VPB in Botswana and Namibia as a senior investment professional. He began his career as an analyst with Fleming Asset Management Botswana.
Bafana earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance) and an MBA from University of Cape Town. He also holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Business from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Non-Executive Director (Director since: 2016)
Osbourne Majuru is a Non-Executive director of Cresta Marakanelo Ltd. He also holds a directorship at Cresta Holdings Pty Ltd. He currently holds a position of Chief Financial and Transformation Officer at Masawara Ltd.
He has held a position of Chief Executive Officer of Cresta Holdings Pty Ltd for a number of years, among other positions he has held in his entire career. His experience cuts across industries such as mining, hospitality and petroleum among others. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession holding a CA qualification obtained in Zimbabwe.
Acting Managing Director
Glenn Stutchbury is a well-known travel and tourism personality in Southern Africa, with a career dating back a quarter of a century to his beginnings as a hotel management trainee. He is today Chief Executive Officer of Cresta Holdings (Pty), one of the most well-established hospitality groups in Southern Africa, with operations in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. Stutchbury’s passion for excellence and development in travel and tourism has seen him working closely with key stakeholders in the private and public sectors of the industry. This is particularly so in Zimbabwe, where working with other industry leaders, he has contributed to key policy formulation as well as finding solutions to overcoming key challenges affecting the industry. Described as ‘a leading hotelier,’ Stutchbury has gained vast experience in managing hotels in The Leading Hotels of the World brand as well as other establishments. He is a Board Member and past President of the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism and a past President of the Zimbabwe Chefs’ Association. A key interest for Stutchbury is that of technology in tourism and how the ever-expanding role of technology is a game-changer for travel and tourism business in the 21st century. The Cresta group is recognised as one of the first hotel operations in Southern Africa to introduce a hotel app aimed at promoting one of Africa’s key destinations, Victoria Falls. Stutchbury’s sterling input to the growth and developments of Zimbabwean tourism has been recognised with various awards and accolades over the years, among them the prestigious Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe Hospitality Award and the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism Personality of the Year Award. He is regularly invited to speak at local and international events including the recent Hotel Investment Conference Africa.
Group Human Resources Manager
Segomotso holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and has been with Cresta for five years. Prior to joining Cresta, she was a Human Resources lecturer at the Botswana Institute of Administration and Commerce.
Group Operations Manager
Jonathan holds a Higher National Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management from the United Kingdom and has 24 years hotel experience. He has worked in numerous countries, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom, Tanzania and Zanzibar running 4 and 5 star lodges and resorts. He rejoined Cresta in 2007 as General Manager of Cresta Lodge and was promoted to Group Operations Manager in 2010. He is part of the TC grading committee for Botswana Bureau of Standards and is a BOTA recognized trainer for the hotel industry. He also holds a diploma in International Sales and Marketing
Group Projects Manager
Duncan has over 11 years experience as a quantity surveyor. He has a BSc (Hons) Quantity surveying from the University of the West of England, Bristol. He is presently studying for an MBA in Construction and Real Estate with the college of estate management , Reading UK. Before joining Cresta Marakanelo he was Senior QS with Mhutsiwa and Associates and also held a position of Associate Director with Turner and Townsend.
Head of Sales and Marketing
Patrick is a group sales and marketing leader, directly in charge of marketing ethos which forms the operational soul of the group business. In his role Patrick, combines his expertise in experience-driven marketing with 18 years in the hospitality industry sensibilities to strategically guide the local and regional. Patrick will leverage his experience in the hospitality market place to grow the brand locally and outside Botswana. Patrick joined Cresta Marakanelo as Area Sales Manager in 1993 and has grown through the ranks to become Head of Marketing and Sales. He was responsible for defining the vision and brand strategy across all disciplines for the group. He earned Professional Development Programs in Hospitality Sales and Marketingwith University of Cornell – USA. Patrick is a board member of Junior Achievement Botswana, Advisory board member of Limkokwing University and Gaborone Technical College. (GTC).
Acting Chief Financial Officer
Chipo is a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA). She holds an MBA from Management College of Southern Africa. She is an accredited Fellow Member of the Institute of Administration and Commerce in Zimbabwe (FIAC, Z). She is also a Chartered Director from the Institute of Directors for Southern Africa. She has over 15 years’ experience having worked for TA Holdings Ltd as Assistant Company Secretary. She also worked at Cresta Holdings Head office based in Johannesburg in various capacities before being re-assigned to be based in Zimbabwe in 2012 – 2016 to assume the role of Finance Director for Cresta Holdings. She assumed the role of Acting Chief Financial Officer at Cresta Marakanelo from October 2016 to-date. She remains responsible for Zimbabwe, South Africa and Cresta Holdings Botswana.
